RAM Jam returns
After a successful two years, Craven's exciting RAM Jam (Ribblesdale Area Musician's Jam) jazz project is back.
The project is looking for musicians of all abilities aged 10 - 20 who enjoy playing music and meeting new people.
All participants need to provide their own instrument but don't have to play to any particular standard (The project have had participants in the past who'd only been playing their instruments for a couple of months yet still managed to do solos in the final gig). Repertoire will be adapted and arranged so that everyone gets the chance to shine, irrespective of previous experience or level of playing.
RAM jam is the exciting brainchild of Musical Director Richard Ormrod who wanted to create a junior community jazz ensemble to perform alongside Dales Jam, an established adult community jazz ensemble based in Skipton.
Working in partnership with NYMAZ and Settle Victoria Theatre, Richard delivers a series of workshops and rehearsals aimed at teaching the young participants about the dynamics of playing as an ensemble and the exciting possibilities of improvisation, group composition and arranging.
RAM Jam's Musical Director Richard Ormrod said about the project, "RAM Jam is a very exciting opportunity for young musicians aged 10-20, of any level of ability, to play music together in Craven. It first began in 2008 and this is the third RAM Jam project - each year it has been more successful, with more participants, more music, more fun! Participants meet and play with other musicians, and learn about different kinds of music from all over the world and how to play together in a group, as well as about how music fits together and improvisation skills. We meet at the Victoria Hall in Settle between 4.30 and 7pm on a Tuesday evening, and on the 27th March the RAM Jam group will be playing in the Victoria Hall supported by the spectacular thirty-piece Dales Jam community orchestra from Skipton and a nationally-renowned guest solo artist."
