About this project
Singing Mix saw artists from internationally-renowned chamber ensemble Ex Cathedra work with pupils from Selby Abbey Primary School, learning fun playground singing games from England and Poland."I love being a song leader. When you have finished singing all of the kids smile" - Song Leader
Part of the national Sing Up programme, the main aim of the Singing Mix day was to encourage mutual understanding and friendship building between English and Polish-speaking pupils. The fun workshops and activity sessions enabled children to creatively learn how to support each other, build confidence and develop new language skills. Older children were also taught how to be Song Leaders so that they could lead singing games in the school playground and encourage the younger pupils to continue singing the songs they’d learned once they were back in the playground.
Around 70 pupils aged 5 – 10 took part in the day that culminated in a fun, energetic concert in beautiful Selby Abbey attended by a large audience of fellow pupils, family and friends. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic and everybody thoroughly enjoyed taking part.
This event was supported by Sing Up and Sing for Pleasure.
