About this project

December 2008 saw a magical night of festive music when over 60 children and young people from schools in the Skipton area performed alongside Skipton Camerata in the world premiere of Tom Lydon's musical interpretation of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'.

There was a full house at Craven Court and the audience warmed themselves up with some traditional Christmas carols before the choir and orchestra gave a fantastic performance full of festive spirit and cheer.

Working in partnership with Skipton Extended Services, this was the first project for Community Camerata, the new community and education arm of Skipton Building Society Camerata who aim to offer high quality musical experiences to people of all ages and abilities in the local community. Children from all nine Skipton primary schools were joined by a chamber choir from Skipton Girls' High School and they rehearsed with the orchestra over a period of eight weeks, learning complex arrangements and vocal parts.

The project was a great success and we're looking forward to working with Skipton Camerata again in the future.
