Three inspiring and diverse week long residencies of creative music workshops!

Young people in rural North Yorkshire will have the chance to experience a range of musical genres and cultures, thanks to this new programme - ‘Sounding Out’. With funding from Arts Council England, ‘Sounding Out’ invites young people to work alongside professional musicians in a series of three music residencies held in the half-term holidays throughout 2019. In addition to learning new instrumental and vocal techniques with the band, participants will perform in concert alongside the professional musicians running the residency. The first Sounding Out residency is taking place this February (25 February to 1 March) at Settle Victoria Hall. Where Trio Simbora will take participants on a musical journey through Brazil, from Rio’s instrumental Choro music to the uplifting songs from the Forró and the Afro-Brazilian traditions of the north-east region. Participants will perform in concert alongside Trio Simbora on the final evening. Subsequent residencies will focus on jazz and folk music respectively taking place in the May and October Half-Terms!
