Hi everyone, my name is Teah and I’m really excited to have recently started in post as the Programme Manager at NYMAZ. For the last 3 years I’ve been working as a Youth Delivery Lead at the Prince’s Trust which saw some really interesting work supporting young people 18-30 years to start their own business. I have also been working part time at an arts venue where I take the lead on marketing and social media to spread the word on all the different events and projects we have going on.
However, what has brough me to NYMAZ is my love for music. For the last six years I’ve been working hard to grow as an independent artist. I am a singer-songwriter, and record and release music under my own name, Teah Lewis. This has taken me to some really exciting places, including performances all over the North, a support slot for Richard Hawley at Sheffield’s Leadmill, and festival performances at Live at Leeds, Long Division and Tramlines. I also run an events company in Sheffield that promotes live music gigs prioritising female identifying, non-binary and trans musicians.
I am so excited to bring my experience of youth work and grassroots music to NYMAZ and to explore more of North Yorkshire. I’m particularly excited about empowering the young people we work with to progress in the directions they want, and facilitating them to be pro-active, start their own projects, build confidence to use their voice and connect to the opportunities that they’re most excited about.
So far, I’ve been enjoying getting to know Sarah and Abby and visiting our lovely office in Clements Hall. I’ve been getting ready for end of year reporting, which is an important part of the year in terms of evaluation of our programmes and also to embed future funding and improvements to our offer. I got to visit a brilliant Little Notes session ran by Bryony Harris at Ripon Library and see how much the families and young children got from communal singing and socialising with music. I’ve also been setting up a survey to help us to short-list our upcoming POD series. I’m really looking forward to seeing what our prospective participants are passionate about so I can begin planning them.
