Meet the Team!

Welcome to Rural Fest

Hello and welcome to Rural Fest 2022

Taking place on Saturday June 25th - and in connection with Make Music Day on Tuesday June 21st - Rural Fest 2022 is set to celebrate local talent within the music world by bringing this talent to rural communities in North Yorkshire.

This year, central to Rural Fest will be the theme of climate change. Throughout the festival there will be discussion, consideration, and emphasis on the ways in which the music industry may contribute towards a healthier global environment. Expect live music, workshops, and compositions during what is sure to be a special weekend.

One piece of music you’d take to a desert island: ‘Silver Soul’ by Beach House because not only is it the closest to a perfect dream pop song as I’ve ever heard, but Kendrick Lamar sampled the track in his own brilliant song ‘Money Trees. So, it’s basically two great songs.

Name: Ben L

Area you live: Leeds
One piece of music you’d take to a desert island: ‘Summer Madness’ by Kool and The Gang. It’s my favourite song ever and it’s one of the most serene and tranquil songs I have ever heard but has a great groove in it. The synth solos are magnificent and I could literally put it on repeat all day and never get bored of it. I bought it as a 12” single on vinyl before I ever had a record player because I loved it so much and wanted it physically so I could hug it when I put it on.
What aspect of Rural Fest 2022 are you most excited for?
I’m excited to see many young musicians come out and play and see how much good music is coming through in the Yorkshire music scene. The activities on Make Music Day look to be really engaging with young people as well, as it’s always great to give everyone of any age and ability the chance to play music and it’s positive that Rural Fest can do this with their programme.
