NYMAZ early years projects supported by Youth Music

NYMAZ is delighted to have been awarded funding from Youth Music to run high quality music projects for early years children (aged 0 – 5) and their parents / carers in two different North Yorkshire locations.

The funding will support the delivery of the Musical Mums project in Harrogate (in partnership with Harrogate International Festivals) and the Music Tots project in Whitby (in partnership with Musicport) until April 2015. Both projects aim to improve the musical, communicative and emotional development of early years children through building parents’ confidence in singing and music-making with their young children; encouraging contact between parent and child to support bonding; improving self-esteem and sense of achievement in parents and young children; and offering opportunities in locations where parents can access them without significant travelling time.

The projects will link in with the work of NYMAZ’s Early Years Music Network, which connects professionals working in the early years sector in North Yorkshire, offering them training and networking opportunities. Youth Music is the leading UK charity using music to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. Youth Music supports and develops exemplary music provision at every stage of a young person’s development, whether it’s the first time a mother and baby make music together, or a talented teen’s debut at the Royal Albert Hall.

Youth Music has transformed the landscape of musical opportunity in the UK. Since 1999, over two million children and young people have been reached through all types of music; both in and out of school.
