Rural Fest OPEN CALL

What is Rural Fest 2020?

Rural Fest is part of the free international festival Make Music Day. On the 21st June, we will be showcasing a series of online events and performances celebrating a range of music, well-being activities and visual art. The festival aims to explore the theme of ‘Rural’ and what this word means to us in a digital setting. It will be broadcast across various platforms on the summer solstice, and we are looking to programme a range of activity throughout the day.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a wide range of creatives to perform at our digital festival. Whoever you are and whatever your art is, we want to hear from you! Some examples of what we are looking for are:

Musicians from any genre to play up to 30-minute slots throughout the day, live or pre-recorded (subject to flexibility)

Artists from any background, whether you’re a painter, illustrator, graffiti artist – we’re interested! We are keen to find artists that would be interested in collaborative projects with musicians such as draw-alongs and workshops.

Yoga or meditation instructors who would be interested in a sunrise/morning session corresponding to the summer solstice in collaboration with musical performances.

Poets, storytellers or puppeteers who incorporate music into their work or are interested in creating an event to go alongside something musical.

However, if your creative niche isn’t listed here and you have an idea for a slot in our programme – we still want to hear from you!

If you have your own tech – that’s fantastic. If not don’t sweat it, if you can perform acoustically then that is great too!

What’s in it for you?

Rural Fest is a completely free event, and all artists, performers, participants and audience members take part and enjoy for free. The whole day is about accessibility, creativity and community.

Make Music Day is showcased both nationally and internationally. In the last couple of years, our livestreams have been viewed across the world in countries such as Tokyo, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Italy as well as being very well interacted with here in the UK. Consequently, Rural Fest 2020 is a fantastic opportunity to have your music heard by a widespread new audience!

Moreover, we will be doing feature blogs and interviews with eager young music journalists to further help boost your profile and influence.

We think that Rural Fest 2020 is an exceedingly exciting prospect and we hope you do as well!

How do you get involved?

Applications to perform at Rural Fest 2020 are now OPEN! All you need to do is send us an email at ruralfest@nymaz.org.uk with the following information:
• Set the subject line to ‘(artist/band name) Rural Fest – Answer to Open Call’
• Write us a short statement of interest (up to 300 words) that explains who you are and what you are offering as a performance/workshop
• Send/include a link to either a website/video/social media page that can show us what you do!

We welcome all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We want to represent each and every person in our community to ensure that Rural Fest 2020 is as accessible and inclusive as possible.
