Wednesday 30 - Friday 1 November, 10.30am – 3.30pm, at Helmsley Arts Centre.
A fun-filled creative 3 days for young musicians ages 10-18.
This half-term activity is part of Sounding Out, a year-long project led by NYMAZ. We are a youth music charity which aims to provide the county’s young people with more music opportunities, and we have partnered with The English Folk Dance and Song Society to put together this three-day music residency.
The residency will provide three days of free creative music workshops, where participants will explore the expressive sounds, melodies and stories of Folk. Enjoying the opportunity to take part in creating and performing new music!
In addition to learning new instrumental and vocal techniques with professional musicians, participants will have the opportunity to perform in concert alongside the Tappy Lappy Quartet on the Friday evening.
All abilities are welcome to attend, so whether you have just started a new instrument, play regularly, or love to sing, come along and make music with Tappy Lappy Quartet, made up of Matthew Jones on guitar, alongside Kev Lees on fiddle, Dave Gray on melodeon and Bryony Bainbridge on vocals.
It is set to be a fun week, where young people will be able to find out about new musical genres, styles and cultures, as well as developing improvisation techniques and performance skills.
Join us to explore the engaging songs, lively melodies and compelling harmonies of English Folk Music! Come and learn new instrumental and composition techniques and perform alongside Tappy Lappy in concert! All abilities are welcome!
Join us for this live performance from the quartet where you can learn and explore an introduction to folk before the residency! Weaving together beautiful harmonies, lyrics and melodies of traditional and new-composed music to create an exciting performance.
