We want the funk!

February 16 & 17, The Courtyard in Thirsk

Young musicians interested in getting their groove on are invited to NYMAZ’s Funk Weekend on the 16 and 17 February, 10.30am – 3.30pm, at The Courthouse in Thirsk.

The first of a series of special weekend music workshops at The Courthouse, the Funk Weekend will be led by the talented Three Jazz ensemble from Leeds. Over the two days, participants will learn the key features of funk, imaginatively rework funk classics and compose an original funk tune. The weekend culminates in a show for parents and everyone will receive a CD recording of their performances.

The Funk Weekend costs only £15 and is suitable for residents of North Yorkshire aged 11 to 18 who play wind, brass, keyboard or drums to Grade 5 standard (or equivalent) and above. Attendance is required on both days and booking is essential.  To book your place, visit the kids page of www.ruralarts.org or call The Courthouse on 01845 526536.

The course has been organised by Pied Piper, a leading charity dedicated to youth music and participation, and is part of the NYMAZ Musical Inclusion programme for North Yorkshire. NYMAZ provides high quality music-making activities for young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity. NYMAZ is funded by Youth Music.
